| People try to
reach God
Throughout history people have tried to reach God and
gain His approval. Religion is just one way people attempt
to restore their relationship with God. Many people
carefully follow religious laws, hoping that their good
deeds will make them acceptable to God.
| Facts about
sin : |
|
1. Everyone has sinned: ‘For
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God'
2. The price of sin is death:
In the beginning there was no death, but sin brought
death into the world. God is just and righteous.
In the same way that a human judge cannot ignore
a crime and let a criminal go free, God cannot
allow sin to go unpunished. God is so holy that
even a sin that may seem small to man is totally
detestable to Him. Every sin is an offense to
God's holiness. The punishment for sin is
eternal death.
3. Everyone has the opportunity to be
set free from sin: ‘But now that
you have been set free from sin and have become
slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness,
and the result is eternal life. For the wages
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' |
People try to do what is right and avoid what is wrong,
hoping to escape the control (rule) and consequences
(punishment) of sin. But religious discipline cannot
remove a single sin! Some people sacrifice animals,
hoping the blood of the sacrifice will cover their sin.
Some people consult religious leaders, dead saints and
even mediums and fortunetellers, but none of these people
have the power to forgive sin and restore the relationship
with God. People can work hard their whole lives, but
their efforts fall short of the perfection God requires.
Maybe you have been trying to please God, but you feel
farther from Him than ever. Maybe you have given up
trying to reach God, because you are frustrated by His
silence. If you put your hope in your own good works,
they can never pay the price (satisfy the punishment,
repay the debt) that sin requires and you are still
separated from God. God still loves you, despite your
sin.
