| Man and woman
break their relationship with God
God loved the man and woman. He created them with a
soul, emotions and reason. He also gave them free will—the
freedom to choose to love Him and one another. There
can be no authentic love without choice. Love can never
be forced—it can only be freely given. God wanted
man and woman to love Him of their own free will. He
gave them a choice to listen and obey Him, or to reject
and disobey. The first man and woman rejected and disobeyed
God. They broke their relationship with their creator.
Man and woman's decision to disobey God corrupted
the perfect creation. Pain, suffering and death were
introduced into the world as a consequence of man's
rejection of his creator. The world was no longer a
perfect place. Sin, rebellion against God and His perfect
will, entered the world.
| What
is sin? |
|
Sin is anything that separates you from God.
Most people are familiar with sins like murder,
theft and adultery. But Scripture also talks about
sins like pride, hate, selfishness and greed.
Many people aren't aware that loving anything
more than God is sin.
It is important to understand that absolutely
everyone is guilty of sin. The only person who
ever lived without sinning is Jesus Christ. And
it is important to understand that sin has a price
tag. The price of sin is death. Jesus paid that
price with his own life, so that you wouldn't
have to pay it with your own. Because Jesus died,
your sins can be forgiven and you can experience
freedom from sin. . |
Now sin rules in the world and it rules in the heart
of every person. Everyone is under the power of sin.
Sin emerges in people's lives as pride, selfishness,
greed, cruel words, hate, violence, and indifference
to the suffering of others. People's private thoughts
and the inclinations of their hearts are full of sin.
Sin separates people from God.
God is holy. His standard is perfection. God cannot
allow evil or sin into His presence. You can never be
good enough or clean enough to be in the presence of
a holy, perfect, living God. The consequence of your
sin is spiritual death. Sin broke the relationship between
God and man that existed in the beginning. Sin breaks
your relationship with your creator.
Longing to be in God's presence
