Prophecies about Jesus'
resurrection |
| Jesus' body will not decay |
|
Prophecy:
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure,
because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
Psalm 16:9-10, a Psalm of David |
Fulfillment:
On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the
women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they
entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While
they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes
that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright
the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the
men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among
the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told
you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 'The Son of Man
must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified
and on the third day be raised again.' " Then they remembered
his words.
Luke 24:1-8 |
| Jesus will live
again after death |
|
Prophecy:
After the suffering of his soul,
he will see the light of life and be satisfied;
by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,
and he will bear their iniquities.
Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,
and he will divide the spoils with the strong,
because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors.
For he bore the sin of many,
and made intercession for the transgressors.
Isaiah 53:11-12 |
Fulfillment:
While they [Jesus' disciples] were still talking about this,
Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace
be with you."
They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost.
He said to them, "Why are you troubled, and why do doubts
rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I
myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and
bones, as you see I have."
When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet.
And while they still did not believe it because of joy and
amazement, he asked them, "Do you have anything here
to eat?" They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he
took it and ate it in their presence.
He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was
still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written
about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will
suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance
and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all
nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
Luke 24:36-47
For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for
the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death
in the body but made alive by the Spirit,
1 Peter 3:18
I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me.
And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among
the lampstands was someone "like a son of man,"
dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden
sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool,
as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His
feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice
was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he
held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged
sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he
placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid.
I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead,
and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys
of death and Hades.
Revelation 1:12-18 |
| Jesus will be raised |
|
Prophecy:
See, my servant will act wisely;
he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.
Just as there were many who were appalled at him—
his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man
and his form marred beyond human likeness—
so will he sprinkle many nations,
and kings will shut their mouths because of him.
For what they were not told, they will see,
and what they have not heard, they will understand.
Isaiah 52:13-15 |
Fulfillment:
God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses
of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received
from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out
what you now see and hear.
Acts 2:32-33
Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a
man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest
place
and gave him the name that is above
every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the
earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus
Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
